Safe Dating Guidance

BlackGentry is built for intentional singles. While meaningful connections are our goal, your safety and comfort always come first. The guidance below is designed to help you protect your privacy, stay aware, and date with confidence both online and in person.

Online Safety

Protect Your Personal Information

Take your time before sharing sensitive details. Avoid giving out your full home address, workplace, daily routine, financial information, or anything that could compromise your safety.

If you are a parent or guardian, limit information about your children on your profile and in early conversations.

Stay in the App Until You Feel Comfortable

Our messaging system is designed to support safe communication. If someone pushes you to move to text messaging, social media, or another app very quickly, slow down. It is okay to keep conversations within BlackGentry until you feel fully comfortable.

Trust Your Instincts

If something feels rushed, inconsistent, or overly intense, pay attention to that feeling. You are never obligated to continue a conversation. You can unmatch, block, or report at any time.

Use the Block and Report Features

If a member behaves inappropriately, harasses you, requests money, misrepresents themselves, or makes you uncomfortable, use the report feature. Blocking someone prevents further contact.

Your reports help us maintain a respectful and authentic community.

Online Money Scams

IMPORTANT WARNING
Never send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or financial account access to someone you have only met online. If anyone asks you for money, stop engaging and report the profile immediately.

Online scams can occur on any dating platform. Fraudsters often try to build emotional trust quickly before asking for money or financial assistance.

Meeting in Person

Take Your Time Before Meeting

Consider having a phone or video conversation before agreeing to meet. This can help confirm that the person matches their profile and gives you a better sense of comfort.

Choose a Public Location

For the first few dates, meet in a busy public place such as a coffee shop, restaurant, or public venue. Avoid meeting at private residences early on.

Tell Someone Your Plans

Share the details of your date with a trusted friend or family member. Let them know who you are meeting, where you are going, and when you expect to return.

Control Your Transportation

Arrange your own transportation so you can leave at any time. Drive yourself or use a rideshare service that allows you to remain independent throughout the date.

Know Your Limits

Be mindful of alcohol consumption and your surroundings. You should always feel in control of your decisions and your safety.

If at any point you feel uncomfortable, it is okay to leave.

Clear Communication Matters

Healthy connections are built on respect. Express your boundaries clearly and listen when others communicate theirs.

Consent Is Required

Any physical interaction must be based on clear and mutual agreement. Silence, pressure, or assumption is not consent. If you are unsure, ask. If someone says no or seems uncomfortable, respect that immediately.

Emotional Safety Is Important

Dating should not involve intimidation, manipulation, or coercion. If someone attempts to pressure you emotionally or physically, remove yourself from the situation.

Support and Resources

If you ever feel unsafe or threatened:

  • Contact local emergency services in urgent situations
  • Reach out to trusted friends or family
  • Seek local crisis, counseling, or support services

If a situation involves another BlackGentry member, please report the profile through the app so our team can review it.
